VIERA, Fla. – Chris Coughlan hit a go-ahead, bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning, leading the Florida Marlins to a 6-4 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, the Marlins rallied for five runs off reliever Brian Broderick. Coughlan finished with two hits, was hit by a pitch, and scored twice. Marlins starter Adalberto Mendez pitched 3 2-3 innings, allowing one run and two hits with four walks. Washington’s Ross Detwiler gave up one run on five hits in five innings. He struck out two. VIERA, Fla. – Justin Verlander pitched six scoreless innings, leading Detroit past the Washington Nationals 6-1 Sunday in a game in which Magglio Ordonez was scratched from the Tigers’ lineup because of a sore left hamstring. Verlander allowed six hits, struck out seven and walked one. Nationals starter Tom Gorzelanny went five innings, allowing a two-run homer to Don Kelly in the third inning. Gorzelanny gave up four hits overall and struck out three and walked two. Kelly, who had two hits, replaced Ordonez in the lineup. Matt Stairs hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Nationals. Alberto Gonzalez was 4 for 4 for Washington, with four singles.
